Delford Lawrence Gorbet
Delford Lawrence Gorbet passed away August 10, 2019 in Marysville, Ca at the age of 88.
Del was born in San Pedro, CA to Ira and Winnie Gorbet and spent his childhood in Southern California graduating from Narbonne High School. His family moved to Susanville in 1949 where
he worked for Shasta Forest as a scaler.
Del married Betty Houser on Nov 19, 1950 and they had two sons, Richard and Scott. Del and Betty were married for 30 years until her death in 1980.
During this time Del worked for the Susanville Police Department, where he became Chief of police. He then went to work for the Lassen County Sheriff’s office as Under Sheriff. He was
elected Sheriff in 1973 . He was reelected several times until he retired in 1983. He earned his AA and BA degrees in Criminal Justice and taught classes at Lassen Community College.
Del also served in the National Guard for 22 years reaching the rank of Captain. In 1980 Del married Joan Ochotorena. During their retirement Del and Joan lived in Happy Valley and Yuba City.
Del is survived by his wife, Joan, his sister, Edna Ward, his sons Richard Gorbet (Leah) and Scott Gorbet (Brenda), 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Sept 7, 2019 at 10:00 am at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Susanville.
