Destructive Nevada Wildfire 50% Contained

A quick update this morning as we approach the second day of a massive wind-driven fire just south of Reno.

Firefighters report that the Washoe Drive Fire is burning along the U.S. 395 corridor with more than 20 homes confirmed lost and more threatened by the conflagration.

Nevada’s fire management agency estimates that at least 3,700 acres have been burned with no estimate of containment or control.

Sierra Front says the blaze is 50% contained.

According to this report at News 2 in Reno fire officials have confirmed there is one fatality. They cannot confirm if it was fire-related, or not.

News 2 also is reporting that fire officials say forward progress has been stopped on the fire, but say several hundred acres of hot spots are still burning.

The dispath center says fire behavior moderated overnight due to diminishing winds, lowering temperatures and increasing humidityand moisture moving over the Sierra Nevada Carson Range.

Officials are still investigating as to how this fire exactly started.
