Racing fans in Lassen County will have to wait till the 2026 season for their next adrenaline fix. Berglund Racing Promotions announced the cancellation of this weekend’s final two races of the season at the Diamond Mountain Speedway. The decision was made due to a lack of funding.
The promoter, Leif Berglund, cited financial strain as the primary reason for the cancellation, noting the high costs associated with facilitating the races.
“We hope everyone can understand, we have been funding the races and the payouts out of our personal money,” Berglund said. “Each race has been costing us $3,000 for insurance and racetrack rental for one night, that is before paying our helpers and the payouts. We simply cannot do it this weekend.”
The promoter said that he’d been in Susanville all last week trying to raise more money. According to Berglund, the late contract for the season meant that many local businesses had already committed their sponsorship funds elsewhere.
“We are sad to announce we can’t run races this weekend,” Berglund stated. “We tried everything we could to get them funded and even put my personal race stuff for sale to help finish the year out, but simply we are out of time.”
The two-day event, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st, would have been the final races of the season. Racing is not permitted after August 31st because the fairgrounds has other commitments.
Berglund concluded with an apology to the community. “We deeply apologize,” he said. “This way everyone can go support other tracks and make plans for this weekend.”
He added that the promotion company is already working to secure a schedule and sponsorships for a bigger and better season next year.
