Diamond View Leaders Bring Fresh Ideas Home After Inspiring Summer Institute

For the fifth year running, the dedicated leadership team from Diamond View School has returned energized and inspired after attending the Annual Summer Leadership Institute at Chico State University. Mr. Jenner, Mrs. Shaw, Ms. McIntyre, and Mrs. Heimbigner were among more than 200 educators from across the region who converged for two days of intensive professional development, held on June 16th and 17th.

Hosted by the Northern California Educational Leadership Consortium, the institute serves as a vital hub for collaboration and growth, with sessions meticulously designed by and for local educators. This year’s program delved deep into critical themes, focusing on “radical inclusivity and diversity,” exploring “leadership through equity,” and offering strategies for “strengthening school culture in rural communities” – topics particularly pertinent to schools like Diamond View.

Attendees were treated to insights from nationally recognized experts. Dr. Carmen Williams from Harvard University shared her expertise on “Scaling Your Improvement Efforts with System Wise,” offering practical approaches to systemic school enhancement. John Krownapple of Johns Hopkins University captivated the audience with his presentation on “The Transformational Power of Dignity,” emphasizing the fundamental importance of respect and value in educational settings.

The institute’s ongoing success is supported by funding from the 21st Century California School Leadership Academy and bolstered by local county offices of education, underscoring NorCal ELC’s commitment to fostering leadership and collaboration throughout the North State.

“We are incredibly proud to continue this tradition of professional learning,” said Diamond View Principal Dede Heimbigner who said the staff returning to Diamond View after this institute means they’re armed with fresh ideas, a deeper understanding of equitable practices, and an even stronger commitment to fostering shared leadership within the school.

The insights gained are expected to play a key role in guiding Diamond View’s efforts to enhance its learning environment and strengthen its community in the upcoming academic year.
