This past weekend, Diamond View Middle School hosted a 7th-8th grade girls basketball tournament, welcoming eight teams – Portola, Loyalton, Chester, Westwood, Janesville, Shaffer, Johnstonville, Richmond, and Diamond View – and according to Principal Dede Heimbigner the weekend was filled with great competition, teamwork and community spirit.
“I wanted to take a moment to share how proud I am to be part of this amazing community,” Heimbigner explained. “What stood out most was how the entire community came together in such a positive way. Throughout the tournament, people were helpful, thoughtful, and supportive. From encouraging all the players to helping clean up or making room for strangers, the kindness and camaraderie were truly inspiring.”
According to Heimbigner, the gym was packed with standing-room-only excitement for three days. Parents, grandparents, family members, and friends cheered for all the teams, showing sportsmanship and support, even during those intense overtime and double-overtime games. The girls played with heart and determination, and their sportsmanship was a highlight of the event.
“A big thank you to the coaches, referees, players, and staff for making this tournament such a success. It was wonderful to see our community come together in such a positive and uplifting way.”
“This weekend reminded me of how lucky I am to live and work in Lassen County. Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the players, and helped make this event so special. Congratulations to all the teams on a fantastic tournament!”
