Diamond View Middle School students recently took community support to new heights during a spirited assembly held on Friday, October 25th. The event celebrated the culmination of a school-wide food drive that saw students collect 1,300 items for local community organizations in a “house versus house” competition.

Through this friendly rivalry, students worked to collect food donations, with points awarded based on the type of item – baby formula earning the most points to emphasize its high value for families in need.

With enthusiastic participation from all houses, the students gathered an impressive array of food items, including canned goods, baby formula, and other non-perishable essentials.

The contributions were presented to representatives from the Public Health Food Bank in Herlong, Crossroads Ministries, the Salvation Army, and Lassen Family Services. These local organizations are dedicated to providing food assistance to families and individuals facing food insecurity, and the donations from Diamond View students will go a long way in supporting these efforts.

Diamond View Middle School extends a special thank you to Megan Gray of the Lassen County Office of Education for her instrumental role in coordinating this event. Megan dedicated her time to organizing the community agencies, inviting them to participate, and ensuring that every aspect of the event ran smoothly.

Her efforts made it possible for the students’ contributions to reach those most in need, and the school is grateful for her invaluable support and dedication.

“This event not only showed the incredible compassion and community spirit of our students but also helped them understand the impact they can have on others’ lives,” said Dede Heimbigner, Principal of Diamond View Middle School.

“The competitive element made it even more exciting, and we are proud of their dedication to helping families in need.”

The food drive is part of Diamond View’s ongoing commitment to service learning, encouraging students to engage with the community, learn about social issues, and make a meaningful difference.

The school looks forward to continuing this tradition of community engagement and building future leaders who value service, empathy, and teamwork.
