Lassen Land and Trails Trust will be hosting a “Discover Lassen” presentation by Debra Marsino, who will describe her climb up Mt. Elbrus in Russia, the highest peak in the Caucasus Mountains standing at 18,510 ft.
On her 50th birthday, this self-described “Peak Bagger” decided to climb all 15 of the 14,000+ peaks in California. She reached her goal summiting all without a guide and most in just one day.
Then she moved onto higher peaks, over 18,000 ft. Mt. Elbrus was the first of seven high peaks she’s bagged – again with no guide.
You’ll learn how this mother/son duo dealt a Level 4 travel advisory (do not travel), and the risk of high-altitude sickness, unexpected storms, freezing weather, and crossing glaciers and crevasses that claimed the lives of two climbers just a week before she arrived.
Her story of determination and grit will inspire you. (even if you don’t set foot on an 18,000 ft. peak)
The presentation will be held Wednesday, April 19th at 7:00p.m., at the Historic Railroad Depot, 601 Richmond Road.
