The lack of water in northeastern California continues to take its toll on Eagle Lake, with waters receding at a frightening speed.
Dr. Owen Bateson, Susanville’s meteorological expert, says that by summer’s end Eagle Lake could see its lowest water level since the 1930’s.
“We only had .22 inches of rain in June which is 40% of average for the month,” said Bateson. “That brings us to 13.77 inches for the 2013-2014 season which is only 64% of average.”
Bateson pointed out there forecasters are calling for a 70% chance of an El Nino ocean temperature increase this summer and an 80% chance for this coming winter. The El Nino conditions could cause our area to receive a significantly wetter, and colder, winter.
