Dr. Bateson, Susanville’s resident meteorological expert, checks in this morning with precipitation totals for January, a month he describes as, “very dry and dismal.”
“I recorded only .03 inches of precipitation and that’s only 1% of the monthly average,” said Bateson. “That only brings us to 12.12 inches for the year.”
According to Bateson we have dropped from 135% to 103% of our yearly average to date in just the month of January.
February is starting out to be a wet month with forecasters predicting a string of storms bringing much needed moisture to northeastern California.
Bateson’s numbers show that we have already received .48 inches here in Susanville and .66 inches up at Spalding since February 1st.
