Dr. Bateson, Susanville’s resident meteorological expert, reports that we have shattered yet another precipitation record this month.
“I just measured another 2.25 inches of water from snow and rain over the past 24-hours and that brings us to 12.85 inches of rain for February,” explains Bateson. That number eclipses the old February record of 11.9 inches set in 1986.
“We have now broken October, January and February’s records this year,” Bateson said. “That brings us to 40.05 inches for the year to date since July first and is 186% of average for the whole year.”
According to Bateson another 3.8 inches between now and the end of June is all that stands in the way of us breaking the all time record for the wettest year dating back before 1890.
