Drive Thru Clinic: Don’t Let the Flu Get You Down!

drivethruclinicgerm620Join the Germinators and the Lassen County Public Health Department at the 2014 Annual Drive-Thru Flu Clinic, October 8th from 11:00a.m. – 6:00p.m. at the Lassen County Fairgrounds Jensen Hall Parking Lot.

This free flu shot clinic is a great opportunity to protect yourself and your family against the flu without having to schedule an appointment – in fact you can protect yourself from the flu without even having to get out of your car. This free clinic is for anyone ages 2 years and older and vaccine is available by shot or by the needle-free nasal spray for children.

Giving the community free flu shots is not the only purpose served by the annual drive-thru clinic; the event is a mass vaccination exercise to enhance Lassen County’s preparedness capabilities to mitigate one of our community’s top hazards: emergent disease. By coming to get your flu shot, you are participating in a critical drill that practices delivering what could be life-saving medical countermeasures to our population in an emergency. Lassen County Public Health appreciates your participation to help them be more prepared.

The Center for Disease Control recommends that everyone age 6-months and older get the flu vaccine each year. Seasonal flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It spreads between people and can cause mild to severe illness. In some severe cases, the flu can lead to death. In the United States, flu season occurs in the fall and winter and usually peaks in January or February. Some flu related complications include pneumonia and dehydration. Certain groups are more likely to experience these complications including seniors, children and people with chronic health conditions. Therefore, it is important to take preventative measures to avoid the flu.

When Jeremy the Germ shows up for flu season you can be a Germinator and defeat the flu by getting vaccinated and washing your hands. It is important to stay home if you do become sick to help your body recover and to prevent infecting others.
