Eagle Lake Rises Nearly Two Inches in Past Month; Still Slightly Below 2025 Mark

Lassen County Surveyor Don Willis, with the Department of Planning and Building Services, released the results of the monthly Eagle Lake water level measurement Tuesday, showing a steady rise in the lake’s elevation following winter and spring precipitation.

According to the latest data collected at the Gallatin low water ramp, Eagle Lake has risen 0.17 feet (2.04 inches) over the past month. The current elevation now stands at 5,095.18 feet.

Year-Over-Year Comparison
While the monthly gains are a positive sign for the basin, the lake remains slightly behind last year’s pace. Willis noted that the current elevation is 0.02 feet (0.24 inches) lower than it was during the same period one year ago.

Despite being slightly down year-over-year, the cumulative impact of the 2025-2026 season has been significant. Since the start of the winter and spring cycles, the lake level has seen a total increase of 1.63 feet, or approximately 19.56 inches.

Creek Flow Updates
In addition to the lake measurements, Willis reported that Pine Creek – the lake’s primary tributary – continues to flow into the basin. However, the volume of water moving through the creek has decreased significantly compared to the peak flows observed last month.

Local residents and recreationists monitor these levels closely, as the elevation at the Gallatin ramp serves as a key indicator for boat launch accessibility and overall lake health heading into the summer season. (Photos by Don Willis)
