A heat lamp sparked an early morning fire in an outbuilding on Gail Way according to details released by the Susanville City Fire Department on Thursday.
On November 19th, just after 5:00a.m., the Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from the Susan River Fire Protection District and Cal-Fire responded to an address on Gail Way, arriving to find a 10×10 outbuilding on fire. The fire was completely extinguished within minutes.
According to Fire Captain Mark Ward the outbuilding was used as a chicken coop and the cause of the fire appeared to be a heat lamp inside the building.
Three fire engines responded to the incident and additional assistance was provided by officers from the Susanville Police Department.
Captain Ward reminded local residents to use extreme caution while using heat lamps or heating devices during winter months.
