A grass fire broke out in the early morning hours of September 6th, prompting a swift response from local fire departments. Susanville Fire Department, Cal-FIRE, Susan River Fire Protection District, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Fire crews were dispatched to the scene near Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation on River Street at around 6:30a.m.
According to SFD Fire Captain Dale Johnson, “Susanville City Fire Department Truck 1 arrived on scene at River Street and found an active grass fire on the slope.”
Truck 1 initiated a fire attack and stopped the progress of the fire. CalFire E2291 arrived on scene and initiated fire attack on the south flank of the fire. CalFire E2261 arrived on scene and provided a water supply for the City engine and cut a fire break on the north side of the fire.
“Susanville City E628 and Susan River E224 made access from the bike path and extinguished hot spots within the burn area. CDCR E5210 arrived and assisted with cutting fine line and final extinguishment of the fire.”
The fire was contained to an area of .13 acres., and there were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Susanville Fire Department was supported by Cal-FIRE, Susan River Fire District, CDCR Fire, City of Susanville Public Works, the Susanville Police Department.
