Early Morning Gunfire Wakes Up Residents in Uptown

At around 3:00a.m., Monday people living in the area of Skyline Road to North Street were awakened by a flurry of gunshots, triggering a flood of 911 calls from concerned residents.

“Officers contacted three individuals on Nevada Street who were involved in the incident,” Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones in details released Monday morning.

One of the three men, who resides on North Street,  told officers that around 3:00a.m., he and the others were in his home when someone began banging on his door and yelling.

“Once they came out of the house they heard shots being fired from a gun, reportedly being fired at them. The men indicated the person who was firing the gun had run away in the alley.”

Investigation revealed ten expended .223 rifle casings in the area of North Street near N. Gay Street.

“It appears all the shots were fired from one location,” said Jones. “One bullet entered and exited a home near where the casings were discovered, no evidence of injuries were discovered at and around the scene.”

As the investigation continues police are checking surveillance footage from various residences in the surrounding area. Please report any information you might have to (530) 257-2171.
