greenstitches3The Susanville City Fire Department has released the details surrounding a Monday morning structure fire on Main Street that was determined by investigators to have been caused by a transient burning lumber to keep warm.

Shortly after 4:30a.m. on Monday firefighters responded to the 2400 block of Main for a reported structure fire at Crossroads Ministries. Once on-scene fire personnel determined the fire was burning in the exterior siding of an adjacent building.

Fire fighters quickly went to work and extinguished the fire with minimal water – and contained the damage to an 8×8 section of siding. No extension into the structure was found and there were no injuries to report.

According to Battalion Chief James Moore the fire was caused by a transient burning lumber next to the building to stay warm.

The department responded with three apparatus and 11 firefighters with assistance provided by Susan River Fire District, Cal-Fire and the Susanville Police Department.
