Fire Crews Respond to Vegetation Fire on Cheney Creek Road

4:46p.m. According to Lassen County OES Emergency Services Chief Dave Junette the madatory evacuation along Cheney Creek Road has been lifted, and only a voluntary evacuation remains in place. The road remains closed except for residents of the area.

3:28p.m. According to Dave Junette, Lassen County Emergency Services Chief the Cheney fire is currently at 100 acres. There is a mandatory evacuation on Cheney Creek road from the water towers west.

The fire is burning in both grass and timber.

Junette also said there are 6 air tankers, 4 helicopters and numerous crews working the wildfire.

The fire, according to Junette, is moving towards the west away from Susanville.

Updated 2:52 – Susanville Police Chief Tom Downing has confirmed that residences along Cheney Creek Road have been evacuated.
According to Chief Downing South Street, Gem Drive and Pearl Circle have all been closed to traffic, although residents of those areas are still allowed into their homes.

Updated 1:41p.m. SusanvilleStuff Emergency Services Liason Niki Cunningham is on-scene and reports that Cheney Creek road is now closed to everyone, including residents.

Air tankers have begun arriving at the Cheney incident.

Updated 1:28p.m. The fire has crossed Cheney Creek road and residences along the road are being evacuated.

Four airtankers and two helicopters are on their way.

Incident command reports the fire is now at 10 acres and burning in dense vegetation.

Updated 1:25p.m. Summary of conditions from fire officials is that currently the fire is two acres in size, has a high rate of spread in dense underbrush. One structure on Cheney Creek road is threatened. Four aircraft are on order.

1:15p.m. Multiple agencies from throughout the valley are responding to a reported vegetation fire on Cheney Creek Road southwest of the Susanville city limits.
