Fire Department Releases Details of Monday’s Multiple Brush Fires


The Susanville Fire Department is releasing details surrounding three brush fires that burned within the city limits in rapid succession Monday afternoon.

1:47p.m. Riverside Drive

The Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from the Susan River Fire Protection District, Janesville Fire Department and Cal Fire responded to a reported vegetation fire located at the SPI Mill walking path on Riverside Drive in Susanville.

According to Fire Captain Tom Hernandez the first-in engine company arrived to find a 50×20 ft. spot fire burning in brush next to the walking path. The Susanville Fire Department along with Cal Fire quickly extinguished the blaze.

Four chief officers, three police officer units, two Sheriffs officers, three fire engines and fire prevention responded to the incident, the cause of which is still under investigation.

Shortly thereafter two more brush fires were dispatched. One located at the Skyline Park on Skyline Drive and the second located in the 500 block of Wildwood Way.

2:01p.m. Skyline Park

The fire on Skyline Drive, according to Hernandez, burned approximately .65 acres before it was extinguished by fire fighters.

Agencies on scene were Susanville Fire Department, Cal Fire, Susan River Fire protection District, Lassen county OES, BLM and Janesville Fire Protection District.

Three chief officers, two Susanville Police units, three fire engines, two water tenders, one Antelope hand crew, one Cal Fire prevention officer and one Susanville police detective were on-scene at the fire which is still under investigation.

2:04p.m. Wildwood Way

The fire on Wildwood Way was reportedly a small spot in the front yard of a residence. Investigation into the fire cause and origin is still under investigation.

Two Susanville City Fire Engines, one company officer and one Cal Fire Prevention officer responded.
