Forest Service Campgrounds Ready to Open for 2016 Summer Season

sign1

Campgrounds throughout Lassen National Forest are preparing to open for the 2016 summer season:

Officials on the Hat Creek Ranger District expect all recreation facilities on the district to be open by May 2nd.

All campgrounds – Big Pine, Bridge, Cave, Hat Creek, Honn, and Rocky – are fee sites, with rates ranging from $10 to $16 per night. All are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

On the Eagle Lake Ranger District, all campgrounds along the lake’s south shore will be open for reservations on May 15; these include Christie, Merrill, Eagle, Eagle Group and Aspen Campgrounds.

Fees on these campgrounds range from $20 to $125 per night, depending upon the site and amenities. Reservations must be made on the Recreation.gov website.

Staff say that the district’s remaining campgrounds – Bogard, Butte Creek, Crater Lake, Goumaz, and Roxie Peconom – will open by Memorial Day weekend. Of these, only Crater Lake Campground will be a fee site at $10 per night; the remainder will be no-fee sites this year.

Fishing on Eagle Lake does not open until Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and the lake’s low-water boat ramp will open by then. Water levels are slightly higher this year compared to last spring, so access for fisherman on the holiday weekend should be good.

For information on the latest conditions, contact the Eagle Lake Marina at (530) 825-3454 or the Eagle Lake Ranger District at (530) 257-4188.

On the Almanor Ranger District, all the campgrounds along Highway 32 are all open: Elam, Alder, Butte Meadows, Cherry Hill, and Potato Patch. The remaining campgrounds, including those along the Lake Almanor shore, are expected to open by Memorial Day. Lake Almanor is open for fishing at this time. Most sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, except for Almanor South, Almanor Group, and Gurney Group.

For more information regarding Almanor recreation, please contact the Almanor Ranger District at (530) 258-2141. For specific questions, contact Soai Talbot, Almanor District Lead Recreation Technician, at the same number.

For information regarding Eagle Lake recreation, call the Eagle Lake Ranger District at (530) 257-4188. For specific questions or concerns, contact KC Pasero, Acting Recreation Officer, at the same number.

For information regarding Hat Creek recreation, call the Hat Creek Ranger District at (530) 336-5521. For specific questions or concerns, contact Hat Creek Recreation Officer Tami Taylor at the same number.
