Forest Service Seeking Comments on Yellow Creek Watershed Restoration

The Almanor Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest, in collaboration with Plumas Corporation, is initiating public scoping on the proposed Yellow Creek Watershed Restoration Project. The Yellow Creek Project is a 324-acre restoration project aiming to recover the ecosystem functionality of upland forests, meadows, fens, aspen, and riparian areas to the highest achievable level reintroduce fire.

The Yellow Creek Project lies in the Upper Feather River Watershed in Plumas County, CA, and falls within Township 27 North, Range 6 East, Sections 27, 34, and 35 Mount Diablo Base Meridian (MDBM).

The project encompasses approximately four miles of Yellow Creek and a side tributary that ultimately drain into Tasmam Koyom, the Mountain Maidu’s ancestral land.

“This project offers the unique opportunity to improve the hydrologic function of the headwater meadows, springs, fens, and other riparian habitats which contribute to downstream hydrologic flows,” said Forest Supervisor Deb Bumpus.

“It will help to reduce sedimentation to the downstream watersheds.”

The proposed action, including a detailed map of the proposed project activities, is available online at the Lassen National Forest website:

Specific written comments on the proposed project should be received by October 8, 2020, to be considered early during project development and analysis. The Forest Service will review your scoping comments to help identify issues associated with the project.
