Forest Service Update: Discovery of Algal Blooms at Willow Lake

0

The Lassen National Forest and the California State Water Resources Control Board investigation into Willow Lake, located 6-miles northwest of Chester, has revealed that the lake is undergoing a Harmful Algal Bloom.

The lab results from the water samples taken from Willow Lake have revealed low concentrations of Saxitoxin.

The discovery of Saxitoxin is crucial because it is a potent neurotoxin that produces harmful compounds and toxins unsafe to humans and pets.

“We are upholding our advisory that the public exercise caution when visiting or recreating at the site,” said Tim Pohlman, Acting Forest Supervisor.
