Frank Ernaga Honored with Name Change at Susanville’s Memorial Ball Park

As his family and local dignitaries looked on, Susanville native Frank Ernaga was celebrated Saturday with a ceremony held to rename Memorial Ball Park in his honor.

A huge new sign above the left-field wall was revealed and Ernaga’s children, David, Jim and Stephanie, cut the ribbon, officially renaming the 70-year old baseball facility “Frank Ernaga Field at Memorial Ball Park.”

Ernaga, who was involved in Susanville’s youth sports for more than seven decades, was a strong supporter of Lassen College and Lassen High School athletics. He was a standout athlete himself, playing baseball successfully at several levels including a seven-year career in the major leagues highlighted by two seasons with the Chicago Cubs.

It was also opening day for Susanville Little League and the stands at the ball field were packed with youngsters who got to see the dedication ceremony.
