This year is the 20th anniversary of the Friends of NRA fundraising dinner.
The annual fundraiser includes games, and silent and live auctions, to win merchandise, firearms, knives, art and jewelry to name a few.
The benefit is held to preserve the future of the shooting sports and grants from the NRA Foundation benefit programs such as hunter safety education, law enforcement training, conservation, marksmanship training and more.
“Our local Sierra Sportsmen Club received a $35,000 grant in 2010 for range improvements at the Rice Canyon Shooting Range; so it’s nice to see that our efforts are helping our own community,” said Della Smith, NRA organizer and member. “Half of our proceeds remain in Northern California and the rest is used for national programs, with the same ideals.”
According to Smith over 80% of grant monies are typically allocated to youth programs.
“Responsible gun ownership is so important, and learning to respect and handle them properly begins at an early age,” she said.
Soroptomist International of Susanville are catering the dinner. They will be serving a family style meal of barbecued beef tri-tip, baked potato, green beans, salad, rolls with butter, and their famous chocolate Heath bar cake for dessert.
The Lassen Friends of NRA’s annual banquet and auction is this Saturday, September 22nd at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Susanville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Honey Lake Firearms, Sierra Jewelry Company or by calling 254-6595.
