This is the story of a very lucky hat.
Its owner, Frank McKee wore it at his wedding in 1904 and sometime afterward the lucky hat had been carefully packed away and saved as a precious memory.
The lucky black derby somehow managed to fall onto the roadside in the Standish area recently, but once again luck followed the hat and a very nice person found it.
The hat’s rescuer tried to find its owner, but had no luck, so she gave it to the Lassen County Historical Museum.
The hat was wrapped in newspaper and packed in a cardboard box, and tucked inside was a small, fragile, yellowed note. The note said that it was the wedding hat of Frank McKee who had married Cora in 1904, and had little more information.
The note packed with the hat simply says: Wedding hat of Frank Reed McKay married April 6, 1904 to Cora Banks father of Arthur Clive McKay
Does anybody know who the lucky hat belongs to? Can anyone help us get it back to its family? If you know anything about the lucky hat, please contact us at [email protected], call the museum at 257-3292 or email the museum at [email protected].
