In a ceremony presided over by Lassen County Supervisor Jim Chapman Friday at the fairgrounds, two of Lassen’s standout citizens were honored as ‘Old-timers’ of the Year.
Zellamae Miles, granddaughter of Susanville town founder Isaac Roop, was recognized for her tireless devotion to the community. Miles belongs to many local organizations, including the Lassen County Historical Society, where she is past president, and currently serves on the Board of Directors and as a docent in the museum.
She is a member of Lassen Land Trails and Trust and also P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), and a Soroptimist member for many years. Zellamae is a long-standing attendee of the Methodist Church. She was very involved in the lives of her two children, Shireen and Chuck, and volunteered for many years in Campfire Girls and P.T.A.
Miles shares the title of 2013 Old Timer of the Year with Dennis Eugene Wobbe of Doyle. Wobbe’s family moved to Herlong in 1952 and he graduated from Herlong High School four years later.
Wobbe has worked as a rancher, barber, 4H Leader, stock-car race driver and served more than ten years on the Long Valley School Board in Doyle.
The old-timers and their guests were served apple pie and ice cream by Miss Lassen County Ginger Miller and her court, Ivanna Rose and Kylie Downing.
