AzevedoGilbert R. Azevedo passed away at the age of 89 at the Veteran’s Community Living Center in Reno, NV. Gilbert was born May 29, 1926, to Dominic and Rose Azevedo in Newman, California. Gilbert served in the United States Navy as a Radar Specialist on the USS Carroll during World II. Upon returning home he married Donna Pankoski, making their home on the family ranch in San Jose, CA. They had three children, Renelle English (Mike); Terry Azevedo (Cindy), and Randy Azevedo (Glenda). The family relocated to Lassen County in 1956, operating the Azevedo Ranch in the Doyle/Herlong area.

Gilbert was active in the Lassen County Farm Bureau, Lassen County Water Board and the Nevada/Northern California Water Board. He served 10 years as a member of the Lassen County Board of Education. Gilbert was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church serving in numerous ministries. He was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation and the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of Fourth Degree Knight. Additionally, Gilbert served on the Pastoral Council of the Diocese of Sacramento for over 10 years under Bishop Quinn and Bishop Weigand.

Gilbert was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife of 68 years, Donna, his brother Dominic Azevedo, his granddaughter Wendy Azevedo and great-grandsons Isaiah and Tyler. In addition to his children, Gilbert is survived by his grandchildren Brian and Kevin English, Garth Azevedo (Amanda), Austin Azevedo (Yvette), Christina Tipton (Steven), Kimber Azevedo, Kelley Del Carlo (John), and Rob Azevedo. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 1:00 PM on March 11, 2016.
