Gloria passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2024. Gloria was born in Susanville, CA in the Susanville Potters Maternity Home on October 20th, 1944, to John and June Wood.
Gloria grew up in Doyle, CA where she attended Long Valley Elementary School and attended Herlong High School and graduated in 1962. On October 20th, 1962, Gloria married the love of her life Red Day.
In 1965 Gloria and Red welcomed their first daughter Kathleen and then in 1971 they welcomed their second daughter Laura. Gloria worked various odd jobs in Doyle, she then started working for Lassen County for Lassen Regional Solid Waste Management Authority as a Gate Keeper at the Herlong Transfer Station. After 25 years of working for Lassen County she retired in 2010.
Gloria enjoyed being outside, you would usually find her working in her garden or with her wildflowers she planted. Gloria was part of Doyle Fire Protection District for 43 years. She worked on the Ambulance and was their dispatcher. She retired from Doyle Fire Protection District in 2018. Gloria also enjoyed fishing, going for rides in the mountains or desert, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband Red Day, parents John and June Wood, daughter Laura Day, son-in-law Brian Day, son-in-law Brian Catron, brother David Wood, sisters Viola Smith and Beverly Houdyshell. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Catron, sisters Rose Roberts and Sharon (Frank) McCallister, brothers Jack (Linda) and Raymond (Deanie) Wood, grandchildren Brian Catron II, Amber Catron, Haley Catron, Louis Mecredy, Lindsey Godman, and Tieg Rogers, great grandchildren Khloee Catron, Louis Mecredy II, Natalie Mecredy, Harper Catron, Baby TJ, Thomas Wolf, and Samantha Wolf and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
Services will be held on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, at 1:00p.m., at the Doyle Community Center.
