‘My Golden Valentine’ was created in 2011 when Jan Baker from XX- Country  asked Mrs. Parker at McKinley School if the children would like to make Valentines in their classroom to distribute to senior citizens for Valentines Day.

“I was tired of the same ole ‘tell me about your valentine’ on air stuff that has been done for years on radio stations across the country and I thought long and hard about who would really FEEL the love of a valentine,” said Baker.

Valentines brighten the eyes of many Seniors especially those who have lost their Valentines…

The whole school made valentines the first year and then in 2012 the station received a  huge response from the general public and a  couple of day care places.  Jobes Daughters also made doily flowers.

The XX-Country staff counts out the valentines so there are enough to be delivered to Eagle Lake, Country Villa Riverview and  the Senior Center.  On Wednesday February 13th at 3 pm all Valentines will be collected from the school and  dropped off.

“The very best thing about the promotion is the smiles,” said Baker.  “The smiles of our seniors and the smiles of the kids that made these wonderful handmade Valentines.”

Baker said that many seniors are  in their Golden Years and most likely have lost their Valentine of many years and are happy to get a Valentines made with love from a child.   She said she also believes it gives the children a wonderful life lesson.

“For XX-Country  it is so heart warming to be able to be the platform of caring,” said Baker.
