Help Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms Send Local Vets to Washington

honorflightstubIt’s a long way from Lassen County to Washington DC and our local Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms are working with Honor Flight Nevada to send World War II and Korean War Veterans to the nation’s capital for a once-in-a-lifetime visit to their own war memorials. The Honor Flight is a non-profit organization created for the purpose of offering veterans a free trip to see the monuments.

“To this day most of Europe is free, most of the Pacific is free and America is free,” explains local project coordinator Christine Boyd. “This freedom came at a very high cost.”

Boyd said that this tour is their ‘last hurrah’ – the last time they will be recognized as the conquering victors that collectively and literally saved the world.

“We can never repay them for what they’ve done. An ‘Honor Flight Tour’ is simply a small token of our appreciation.”

Throughout their Honor Flight Network tour, the veterans are thanked, recognized and admired for their service. They come home personally knowing how much their country loves them and respects them. Veterans will never forget this gratitude and adoration.

Due to our remote location here in Lassen County, it is not possible for many of our elderly/disabled veterans to travel five hours to San Francisco and then take a long flight to Washington DC with layovers. The Blue Star Moms would like to make this dream a reality for our local heroes by sending them to Washington DC from Reno, however the added cost to make this happen means the group would have to sponsor the veterans at a $1,000 each. This is because donations made to Nevada goes to Nevadans, not Californians.

The cost per veteran is $1,000 and the flight leaves on April 16th from the Reno airport.

The Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms don’t want to see our local war heroes miss out or to incur this cost so they are asking for your help in making this dream a reality.
