
Herman Eugene “Gene” Poteete passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Reno, Nevada. He was 84 years old. Born on August 27, 1940, in England, Arkansas, Gene was the son of Herman and Marie Poteete. His early years in Arkansas laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication to family and a love for the outdoors.
Gene is lovingly remembered by his wife, Fern, with whom he shared 67 cherished years. He was a loyal father to his sons Randy Poteete (wife Jackie) and Art Poteete (wife Brenda). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Desiree Poteete, Danielle Barsalou, Adrienne Leigh, Justin Poteete, and Jolea Clapp. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.
In addition, he is survived by his siblings Johnny Poteete, Donald Poteete, and Sandy Tandy. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marie Poteete, and sisters Ruth Crabtree and Sue Phillips.
Throughout his life, Gene found great joy in spending time outdoors. He had a particular passion for fishing, especially bass fishing, and could often be found casting a line at his favorite spots. Golfing, hunting and bowling were also among his favorite pastimes, pursuits that brought him both relaxation and camaraderie.
Gene’s warmth and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him. A Funeral will be held on August 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Community Church, 1400 Numa Rd. Susanville, CA. There will be a reception following the service.
