High Desert Prison Investigators Seeking Information About Bomb Threat

Investigators from High Desert State Prison are seeking the public’s help as they look into a September 20th, incident that forced the institution to implement emergency protocols after receiving a call saying there was an explosive device on prison grounds.

According to details released by the prison, an unidentified caller phoned at about 8:55a.m., to state that a bomb had been placed in the parking lot.

“High Desert State Prison takes the safety and security of all those who live and work at our institution very seriously, and we work tirelessly to respond to any incident which may pose a threat of violence or major disruption to the daily responsibilities and mission of the institution,” explains Correctional Lieutenant Matt DeForest.

“Due to the seriousness of these threats, CDCR/HDSP initiated All-Hazard protocols and requested Consolidated Bomb Squad Officers from Washoe County Sheriff, and the University of Nevada Reno Police.”

A comprehensive search was conducted of the impacted areas prior to the all-clear, which was given at around 4:00p.m.

According to DeForest the CDCR/HDSP Investigative Services Unit are actively investigating the bomb threat, which is a violation of California Penal Code 148.1.

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact Lieutenant DeForest at (530) 251-5100 extension 6760 or remain anonymous and call the Crime Stoppers tip line at (530) 502-TIPS (8477).
