High School Artists Sought for 1st Congressional District Art Contest

High school students in California’s 1st Congressional District have a unique opportunity to showcase their artistic talent in the Artistic Discovery Contest. The winning artwork from our district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside pieces from students across the country.

This year’s theme, California Gold, invites students to capture the beauty, history, and spirit of the Golden State through their creative expressions.

The contest, sponsored by the Congressional Institute, welcomes a variety of artistic mediums, including paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, and computer-generated art.

To be eligible, submissions must be original in concept, design, and execution, and must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Maximum dimensions: 26” x 26” x 4” (including frame, if selected as the winner)
  • Maximum weight: 15 lbs
  • Accepted mediums: Oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, ink, pastels, photography, collage, computer art, printmaking, and more.
