High-Speed CHP Pursuit on 395 Ends in Nevada with Arrest of Stockton Man

A Stockton man was arrested March 5th, just across the state line in Nevada after leading CHP officers on a pursuit that began on Highway 395 near Janesville and reached speeds up to 120mph.

At around 9:15p.m., Saturday, according to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a CHP patrol unit encountered a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on US-395 in the community of Janesville.

“The officer turned and attempted to make an enforcement stop on the vehicle,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Bruce Thuelchassaigne. “The driver failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued.”

The vehicle increased in speed to approximately 120mph and continued southbound.

A CHP unit from Portola deployed the spike strip near Red Rock Road but the driver continued on 395 at high speeds into Nevada, eventually yielding to law enforcement as he neared Peavine Summit.

CHP officers took the driver into custody shortly before Washoe County Sheriff and Nevada Highway Patrol personnel arrived on scene, identifying him as 29-year old Stockton resident Jovan Joseph Minor.

He was booked at the Washoe County Jail on additional charges discovered by Washoe County deputies. CHP will file fleeing charges with the Lassen County District Attorney.

According to the CHP report the pursuit covered 58 miles and was accomplished in approximately 29 minutes. There were no injuries to law enforcement personnel or the suspect and no damage to CHP or suspect vehicles. A passing motorist sustained flat tires when their vehicle struck the spike strip.
