A stretch of Highway 395 near Alturas has been named in honor of Modoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Jack Hopkins who was killed on October 19th, 2016 while responding to a call.
Family, friends and fellow members of the law enforcement community gathered for a short ceremony and unveiling of signs along the roadway which is officially named the “Deputy Sheriff Jack Hopkins Memorial Highway,” by legislation introduced by Assemblyman Brian Dahle.
Hopkins was only 31 years old and had worked for the Modoc Sheriff’s Office since 2015 as a sworn Deputy. He had previously worked for the Alturas Police Department and was raised in the small community of Montague, in Siskiyou County.
