According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as many as 90 percent of car seats are improperly installed, putting children at great risk!
Luckily the nice folks over at the California Highway Patrol will be offering a free car seat inspection this Saturday at the Lassen County Children’s Fair.
The inspection is absolutely free and the CHP experts will show parents how to properly install their child safety seat and go over safety issues.
No appointment is necessary so stop by the parking lot outside of Jensen Hall at the Fairgrounds this Saturday, May 4th, between 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m.
For more information about car seat safety contact our local CHP office at 257-2191.
Remember these car seat safety laws:
- Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat.
- Children under the age of 8 who are 4′ 9″ or taller may be secured by a safety belt in the back seat.
- Children who are 8 years and over shall be properly secured in an appropriate child passenger restraint system or safety belt.
- Passengers who are 16 years of age and over are subject to California’s Mandatory Seat Belt law.
- Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Also, seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers.
