Vintage photographs, Susanville ephemera and important pieces of local history will all be on display this Friday evening at the museum on Weatherlow Street, as the Lassen Historical Society welcomes the summer season with new exhibits and an open house.
The museum holds a wealth of valuable information for those folks who are interested in the history of our area.
New to the museum this season are vintage maps of the Landers National Wagon Road, which came through Susanville in the 1860’s; a dress worn by Lina Barclay at the turn of the last century and the highlight of the collection, a miniature locomotive that ran as a kiddie train in Memorial Park in the late 50’s and early 60’s.
Miss Lassen County, Bailey Hagata, will lead the flag retirement ceremony for the Girl Scouts, who are celebrating their 100th anniversary.
Johnson Family Carriages will have the historic Susanville stagecoach, an authentic local relic from 1857, hitched up and ready to go for free rides around the museum, Carol Fontana will be performing period music on the fiddle and Debbie Lucero will be in charge of refreshments.
The Historical Society will also take this opportunity to award their annual scholarship to a Lassen County Senior.
Want to be a part of it all? The open house is Friday evening at 5:00 at the museum and the grassy area in front of Roop’s Fort. Summer hours for the museum begin next week and are 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays the museum is open from 11:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. For more information about the event call 257-3292.
