Hospice Awards 2026 Marge Dunlavy Memorial Scholarship to Jade Henderson

Honey Lake Hospice has announced that Jade Henderson, a dedicated nursing student at Lassen Community College, is the 2026 recipient of the Marjorie Dunlavy Memorial Scholarship.

The $2,000 award is presented annually to students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the healthcare field. This year’s recipient was selected for her resilience, academic discipline and her deep-seated desire to serve the local community.

A Journey of Resilience and Service
According to Hospice Scholarship Chair Nancy Lounsbury, Henderson’s path to the Registered Nursing program has been defined by a strong work ethic and a history of overcoming early adversity. Since entering the program in the Spring of 2023, she has balanced the rigors of clinicals and schoolwork with the responsibilities of motherhood.

Henderson’s background in healthcare is extensive, including experience as a Certified Nurses Aid, Phlebotomist, Resident Aid and Medication Technician.

Her future career goals are focused on behavioral health and intervention, hospice, or palliative care, driven by a mission to provide a stable future for her family while offering compassionate care to patients in need.

High Praise from Educators
Instructors at Lassen Community College describe Henderson as a “valued asset” to the healthcare profession. One instructor noted her “intellectual maturity,” highlighting her tendency to ask thoughtful questions to truly master her craft.

“Jade represents the very best of what we hope for in future healthcare professionals: intellectual curiosity, compassion, discipline, leadership, and resilience,” stated one of her instructors.

Friends and mentors alike point to her “calming nature” and “driven” personality as traits that will allow her to excel in the high-pressure environment of nursing.
