Important Dates: Candidate Filing Periods Approaching for June Primary

Lassen County Registrar of Voters Julie Bustamante has released a schedule of important upcoming dates for residents interested in running for office in the June 2nd, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election.

With the election season approaching, the Registrar’s office is issuing reminders to potential candidates about the specific filing periods and deadlines required to qualify for the ballot.

One of the first major windows for candidates is the Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fee Period, which is currently open. This period, which began on December 19th, 2025, allows candidates to collect signatures to reduce or eliminate the filing fee associated with running for office. This period will close on February 4th.

For those seeking a seat on the bench, the Declaration of Intent Filing Period for Superior Court Judge Candidates is set to open soon. Judicial candidates must file their declaration of intent between January 26th, and February 4th.

The general nomination window for all other offices opens shortly after. The Declaration of Candidacy and Nomination Filing Period will run from February 9th, through March 6th. During this time, candidates must complete the necessary paperwork to officially appear on the June ballot.

Bustamante and her staff are available to assist with the process and answer inquiries. “Please contact our office for any questions about candidacy and running for office,” the Registrar’s office advised.
