Officials with the Investigative Services Unit at High Desert State Prison, the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office, the Susanville Police Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the January 23rd death of an inmate as a homicide.
This morning at approximately 7:20 a 48 year-old HDSP inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. He was pronounced dead at 7:53 a.m.
The name of the deceased inmate, who was serving a 22-year sentence for assault with a deadly weapon, is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
The man’s cellmate was moved to the Administrative Segregation Unit pending investigation into the incident.
