JH Heating Weather: NWS Issues Flood Warning for Wednesday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect from this afternoon through this evening for portions of California and Nevada…

The weather bulletin covers the Lake Tahoe basin… the eastern portions of Alpine… Sierra and Plumas counties… the Surprise Valley and all of Lassen… Washoe… Storey… Carson City… Douglas and Lyon counties.

According to the NWS forecast we can expect strong thunderstorms and heavy rain from 2:00 this afternoon through 10:00 this evening.

Strong thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall rates are likely to develop near the Sierra and parts of western Nevada by mid-afternoon… then spread across northeast California and northwest Nevada through this evening.

The weather bureau warns that recent wildfire burn scars and locations near steep terrain are prone to flash flooding and debris flows. Flooding of streets and intersections in urban areas with poor drainage may also occur and impact traffic

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of small streams… creeks and other drainage areas is possible within the watch area. People in the watch area should monitor weather.Gov/Reno for updates and be prepared for immediate action should heavy rains and flooding occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
