JH Heating Weather: NWS Issues Red Flag Fire Weather Warning

Red Flag Fire Weather Warning

The National Weather Service has announced that a Red flag warning will be in effect until 11:00p.m. this evening for gusty winds and low humidity across western Nevada and northeastern California.

Affected area, according to the NWS, include fire zone 270 Surprise Valley, zone 271 western Lassen-eastern Plumas-eastern Sierra- eastern Nevada counties, zone 278 eastern Lassen County and zone 458 northern Washoe County.

Winds are expected from the southwest at 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

The combination of gusty winds and low humidity of 5 to 15% will create critical fire weather conditions.

A Red flag warning means weather conditions can cause fires to grow rapidly before first responders can contain them. Avoid doing outdoor activities that can create a spark near dry vegetation such as yard work, target shooting or campfires.
