The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning residents of Lassen and Plumas counties to expect snow showers tonight and Tuesday.

According to the NWS a late season storm is forecast to bring a period of rain and snow showers to the region tonight into Tuesday.

Showers will develop north of Susanville to Cedarville this evening and tonight. This precipitation will drop south tonight and be in the Reno, Carson City, Tahoe areas around daybreak Tuesday. Mammoth and Mono County will see showers develop during the daytime Tuesday.

A couple inches of snow is likely above 6000 feet in the Sierra, eastern California, and far western Nevada. Snow that falls overnight may accumulate on roads above 6000 feet, but then quickly melt once sunrise occurs on Tuesday.

Travelers going over Sierra passes tonight and early Tuesday morning should be prepared for winter driving conditions and possible slick roads. Travelers should also be prepared for gusty west winds of 30 to 40 mph across all of western Nevada and the Sierra.
