JH Heating Weather Update: Winter Storm Warning and LMUD Outage Update

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10:oop.m. Sunday.

Lassen Municipal Utility District is currently experiencing a system-wide outage. Crews from the utility are en route to Westwood to investigate the problem. No other details are available at this time.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, snow will intensify this morning with periods of moderate to heavy snow through Sunday evening.

Storm total accumulations through Sunday evening above 4,500 feet are expected to be from 1 to 3 feet west of Highway 395 with 6 to 12 inches east of Highway 395.

The highest snow totals will occur along Highway 89 and near Yuba and Fredonyer passes where 2 to 5 feet is likely.

Winds should be lighter than initially expected, out of the south 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

Snow levels are around 4,500 feet this morning, lowering to all valley floors by late afternoon.

Periods of heavy snow and strong winds will lead to whiteout conditions and lengthy travel delays. Travelers need to consider a secondary Route to avoid mountain passes this weekend. Back country activities are not advised.
