The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory
The National Weather Service’s office in Reno is warning Lassen County residents that a ‘colder and wetter storm system’ is likely by mid week.
A developing storm system in the northeast Pacific will move into our area late Tuesday and drop into western Nevada and the Sierra by early Wednesday.
Winds will increase in advance of the storm across northeast California and along the Sierra front late Tuesday afternoon. Winds could gust up to 50 mph by early Tuesday evening.
Precipitation will move into northeast California and the northern Sierra Tuesday night, then into western Nevada Wednesday morning.
Snow will fall at higher elevations Tuesday night and then down to the valley floors on Wednesday.
From Tuesday night through Thursday a foot or more of snow is possible along the Sierra crest with amounts of 6 and 12 inches possible at lake level. Snow amounts will be much less in western Nevada, but some areas may receive a couple of inches. Accumulating snow could lead to travel delays in the mountain passes Wednesday and Thursday.
This storm is still evolving and the specific details of the forecast can change between now and Wednesday… so check back here often for the latest forecast updates.
