JH Heating Weather: Winter Weather Bulletin from the NWS

The National Weather Service is warning area residents to prepare for a wet and windy storm bringing winds gusting up to 65 miles per hour and heavy precipitation.

… Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to 10 PM PST Monday…

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and gusty winds… which is in effect from 6:00p.m. this evening to 10:00p.m. Monday.

Periods of light snow will intensify this evening, lasting through Monday night. Snow accumulations are expected from 6 to 12 inches west of Highway 395 with up to 2 inches east of Highway 395.

Snow levels will begin at around 5000 feet tonight and then fall to valley floors late Monday afternoon.

Winds will be out of the southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 55 mph. Locally stronger gusts to 65 mph are possible through wind prone areas along Highway 395 south of Susanville.

Roads will become slick and icy with chain controls possible. Winds will create areas of blowing snow with periods of near white out conditions possible west of Highway 395.

The gusty winds will also pose travel difficulties for high profile vehicles.

Snow is expected to pose an inconvenience to travelers. Roads will become slick and hazardous… with snow and ice first developing on bridges and overpasses. Motorists should slow down and use caution.
