The City of Susanville is accepting applications for the 2026 Honey Lake Valley Community Pool Season for the following positions:

Head Swim Instructor & Head Lifeguard

The Head Swim Instructor works to provide a safe and educational environment for all Swim Instructors and participants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Lifeguard certification with the American Red Cross
  • First Aid / CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification
  • Oxygen Administration and Blood Borne Pathogen Certification
  • Must pass a swim and skills test prior to hire and must maintain skills in order to maintain active employment status.
  • Must possess auditory and verbal capabilities to effectively communicate with all swimmers and staff.

The Head Lifeguard performs duties to ensure effective performance of lifeguard functions. Ensures that lifesaving certification is current and that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures and coordinates in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the pool and monitoring swimmers and to enforce all safety rules.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Possess high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Four (4) years paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience;
  • Possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification;
  • Possess American Red Cross Training certification in Community First Aid / CPR/ AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Possess American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification;
  • Have ability to pass a swim and skills test prior to hire and must maintain skills in order to maintain active employment status.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of lifesaving techniques including backboard rescue
  • Strong swimming and life-saving abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors and other employees.
