POSITION SUMMARY
The Member Service Representative (MSR) is the first line of contact for members when calling or entering the Credit Union. The MSR serves to provide excellent service to our members. Member service consists of performing transactions and duties in an accurate and timely manner while ensuring the members’ needs are met. Daily duties consist of opening accounts, processing transactions, negotiating monetary instruments, recommending products and services that meet the members’ financial needs and promoting the Credit Union.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Member Service Duties:
- Provide excellent member service to members both in person and over the phone.
- Perform a variety of transactions in person and over the phone, including, but not limited to, deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, purchase of monetary instruments, reviewing account history, ordering checks, certificate transactions and IRA transactions.
- Interview members to obtain information and explain available financial services such as:
a. Savings and Checking Accounts, Individual Retirement Accounts and Certificates of
Deposit.
b. Receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amount, and examine checks for endorsements.
c. Cash checks and pay out money after verification of signatures and member’s balances.
d. Review account activity. - Enter members’ transactions into computer to record transactions, and issue computer
generated/electronic receipts. - Receive member payroll deduction, direct deposit and stop payment forms. Give to the
Transmission Coordinator to process. - Place holds on accounts for uncollected funds.
- Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawer at end of shift and compare total amounts with data displayed on FLEX system software screen. Resolve any discrepancies, if necessary.
- Responsible for learning and becoming comfortable with credit union products and services
available for members including, but not limited to deposit accounts, Christmas Club, Freedom accounts, interest bearing accounts, ATM, instant issue cards, Visa check cards, online banking, estimates, audio response, BillPay, Remote Deposit capture, direct deposit and basic knowledge of loan products. - Provide cross-selling opportunities to members as fit their needs.
- Responsible for learning and applying financial institution regulations such as: BSA, Reg CC, Reg DD, Reg E, (OFAC) Office of Foreign Assets Control.
- Accurately and securely process cash according to policy.
- Responsible for reading, studying and applying credit union policies and procedures as assigned.
- Properly identify members in the branch and over the phone.
- Participate in routine duties including, but not limited to keeping the Credit Union organized, supply inventory, filing, scanning and copying, cleaning and keeping work area in order.
- Actively promote credit union products and specials.
- Participate in appropriate and applicable training through the credit union library, on-site training, and cross training to ensure job knowledge is current and up to date.
- Cross train and assist with projects in other departments, when possible, to obtain more knowledge of the Credit Unions operations.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and
Experience or training in the banking field, working with the public or
experience in customer service preferred.
Required Knowledge:
Beginner level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including
Outlook, Excel and Word.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Willingness to travel and attend seminars. Some educational programs may require you to be out of the area for several days.
Availability to attend staff meetings and training when required by management. You must be willing to work other than your scheduled time in case of need or emergency.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
1. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand or sit, focusing on operating a personal computer intermittently throughout the day.
2. Use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
3. The employee may be required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, climb or balance.
4. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/or move up to 35 lbs.
5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
6. Communicate by telephone intermittently throughout the day.
7. Write using pen/pencil or personal computer keyboard for extended periods, daily.
