Position:
Full-time. Work hours may be variable and outside of the normal (8:00am – 5:00pm) workday to meet the requirements of the position.
Starting Pay:
$22.22 – $27.78
Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Direct Services Program Supervisor, the Elder and Dependent Abuse Specialist purpose is to enhance the safety of elder and dependent adult victims/survivors by providing crisis intervention, education, peer counseling, resource and referral, and support services in a trauma-informed care and advocacy-based counseling model at the business office, other Lassen Family Services locations, and within the community. Documentation of services will include developing case plans and completing progress notes. Work involves handling sensitive issues and confidential information requiring discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities May Include:
- Provides and coordinates direct services to victims of elder and dependent adult victims/survivors including the assessment of participant needs through individual peer counseling and/or crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management that addresses immediate and long-term needs, transportation and accompaniment/referrals to community agencies and resources and ensuring that participants have access to the criminal justice system.
- Provides “Back-Up” and support to Crisis Line each month.
- Ensures casework and office files and records are maintained in compliance with grant goals and objectives and Lassen Family Services policies and procedures.
- Compiles statistical information according to grant and agency compliance standards for data collection and reports.
- Provides public education on issues related to the abuse of the elderly and dependent adult victims/survivors, and the services offered at Lassen Family Services.
- Greets and screens office visitors.
- Answers telephones, directs calls, and takes messages.
- Communicates with participants, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, and disseminate, or explain information.
- Schedules appointments, and coordinate meetings and training with individuals and groups.
- Reviews files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.
- Assists in the development and completion of projects, attending to routine programmatic matters, and coordinating inter/intra departmental efforts to further communication.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of events, i.e., training, meetings, workshops, seminars, and fundraising.
- Hanging fliers and ensuring that an adequate number of brochures and informational pamphlets are available to the public.
- Delivers messages and runs errands.
- Inventories materials and supplies and provides information for ordering.
- Attends conferences and workshops related to violence, networks with other service providers, and maintains positive relationships with community agencies.
- Performs various duties in a training capacity as workloads, temporary absences, or emergencies dictate including providing crisis intervention and immediate support services for victims of abuse over the phone and in person.
- Coordinate and lead a multidisciplinary team that responds to the elder and dependent adult abuse cases, including scheduling meetings and serving as the point of contact for team members.
- Assists with the development of protocols for responding to elder and dependent abuse victims/survivors.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have knowledge of elder and dependent adult abuse cases, victim/survivor services, and the criminal justice system. Any combination of training, experience and education which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be the completion or willing to complete Lassen Family Services’ Crisis Intervention Peer Counselor (CIPC) Training and at least one (1) year working in human services, social work, or similar field. Associate Degree in a related field is preferred.
Typical Physical Requirements: (These are typical requirements, but Lassen Family Services, Inc., will discuss and make reasonable accommodations for job candidates and incumbents with disabilities.) Sits for extended periods; frequently stands, walks, stoops, kneels and crouches to pick-up and/or move objects; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; and may occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
Typical Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a variety of environments including the Lassen Family Services business office, other Lassen Family Services’ business sites, community organizations, and private homes. Requires frequent driving to different locations and sites throughout the service area, frequent contact and communication with other staff, the public, victims/survivors, and representatives of other agencies. Work hours may be variable and outside the normal 8 am to 5 pm workday to meet the requirements of the position. Incumbents are expected to be available on stand-by for crisis intervention responses at any time during specifically assigned time periods.
Special Requirements:
- Valid CA Driver’s License and acceptable DMV record.
- Acceptable State and FBI criminal background check
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment the Crisis Intervention Peer Counseling (CIPC) training.
- Ability to maintain continuing education requirements for CIPC training.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR certification.
