Lassen Union High School District: Student Services Support Specialist (Categorically Funded Position)
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of an administrator, to act as the liaison between multiple community agencies, parents, staff, and school districts in order to provide resources and support for English Language Learner, Native American, and Homeless Students, and other student populations.
During the regular course of work employees may have access to or gain information regarding privileged information. Privileged information may include student and/or parent information as well as information regarding fellow employees. It is expected that employees of the Lassen Union High School District will not release any privileged information about students, staff, labor relations, or any topic properly confined to a closed session of the Board.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in student service and/or employment development. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Formal training beyond the twelfth grade in is desired but not mandatory. Operate a variety of office machines; possess telephone skills and the ability to multitask. Passage of Paraprofessional CODESP Test.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY
Ability to work effectively with school personnel, parents, students, community members, and agencies. Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to students and assigned activities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Public speaking skills required for both large and small group presentations. Ability to function as a team member. Compile, prepare, and maintain complete and accurate records and reports as directed. Knowledge of Office practices, procedures, and equipment; knowledge of computers; telephones techniques; letter and report writing; business English, spelling, and math; ability and knowledge of general software applications typically found in business offices such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Aeries; etc. Learn and interpret relevant rules, laws, and policies and apply them with good judgment in a variety of situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides a variety of specialized duties to support and obtain resources for ELL, Native American and Homeless Students. Receives and responds to inquiries regarding students. Assess student’s interests, abilities, and needs to determine appropriate goals and resources. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, administrative personnel, community members, agencies, and others contacted in the course of work. Tutors students. Maintain an appropriate personal demeanor during periods of heightened stress created by outside factors not always within the ability of the employee to control at the time. Active in School Site Council and LCAP Committee. Travel to and from non-traditional instructional environments; i.e., home visits, community agencies, and other schools.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
May assist in scheduling and coordinating school and community activities held at the school. May assist with student record maintenance. Performs other related student service support duties as required.
SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
CPR Certification.
