The Susanville Salvation Army’s ‘Stuff the Bus’ event was wildly successful this year, garnering the organization’s school supply drive with thirty-four backpacks and 1,225 pieces of school supplies which ranged from binders, crayons, pencil boxes scissors, rulers and everything in between!
“We are very grateful to Susanville Street Rodders and everyone that came out to support the Back to School program!” said Susanville Salvation Army Coordinator Carla McDonald.
Next, Lassen County Public Health and The Salvation Army are teaming up to host a comprehensive “Back to School Bash” to help local students prepare for the upcoming academic year. The event will take place next Wednesday, August 6th, from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Jensen Hall in the Lassen County Fairgrounds.
This free, first-come, first-served event will offer a wide array of services and resources, including:
- Back to School Immunizations
- Backpacks and School Supplies
- Dental Supplies and Oral Health Assessments
- Children’s Haircuts
- “Threads of Love” Clothing Closet
- Popcorn, Drinks, Games, and More!
“This year we are combining our Back to School Program with the Lassen County Public Health’s Back to School bash at the Fairgrounds on August 6th,” said McDonald.
For families planning to attend the Back to School Bash, you can still register for The Salvation Army’s school clothes shopping spree, which will take place in September. Registration for the shopping spree is available online at this website.
For those unable to attend the Back to School Bash, The Salvation Army is offering an alternative. By filling out the application, families can choose to receive a backpack, school supplies, a haircut, and a shopping spree directly from their program.
This event is designated as a tobacco, smoke, and vape-free environment.
